AOK-CH Brought Water to Njoroi Village
While in Africa in 2022, we befriended and bonded with Deonidas Loserian, Deo for short. We have stayed in touch. Deo grew up in a village in Tanzania without easy access to water. He shared with us that he was able to raise funds and coordinate bringing water tanks to his village.
Recently Deo let us know that a remote village of more than 5000 people, Njoroi in the ward of Ololosokwan, has a really big water problem. The government dug a well, but it needs renovations to function. The government has now abandoned the well, which was about nine miles from the village homesteads. This has led to a lack of: clean, consumable water; water for cattle in the dry season; water for irrigating schools, trees, gardens, and water for other domestic uses. The villagers, especially women and children, travel almost two miles to fetch water from untreated wells. The water from these untreated wells is used for livestock and people. This has created significant issues from water-borne diseases. In addition, with global warming, having a consistent water supply also acts as a buffer against the increasing unpredictability of weather patterns. Lengthening periods of drought or unexpected dry spells can drastically affect the availability of water. In such scenarios, water tanks act as safety nets, providing much needed consistency in water supply.
THE ACTS:
AOK-CH furnished Njoroi with three large water tanks in April 2025.
System included:
– three water tanks
– piping
– pumping machines
– solar panels, inverter, and battery
– brick, sand, gravel, wire, mesh, and cement for the tank platforms
– trucks to transport the tanks
THE RESULTS:
This is making a huge impact on the lives of over 5,000 people in Njoroi Village in Tanzania.

The Joyous Results of Acts of Kindness
Dear Erika, Chris, Theo, and Chloe,
I hope this message finds you all well and full of joy.
I am writing to express my deepest and most heartfelt thanks for your generous support in bringing clean water to Njoroi Village. Your donation has made an incredible impact on the community, and I want to share how truly grateful and happy the people of Njoroi are because of your kindness.
The day water began to flow into Njoroi was one of celebration and tears of joy. People danced, children laughed, and elders gave thanks. For years, the community struggled with water shortages, and families walked long distances to collect unsafe water. Your support has changed that story entirely. Now, clean water is available in the village bringing life, hope, and dignity back to our people.
As with many meaningful projects, the journey was not without its challenges. From the beginning, some local government leaders demanded that the entire donation be handed over to them so they could “manage” the project. But I knew that doing so could put the entire effort at risk either through delays or mismanagement. I stood firm, insisting that we honor your intention and ensure every cent went directly toward the water project.
Initially, the plan was to purchase three water tanks. However, after a thorough inspection, the plumber discovered that nearly 90% of the original government installed pipes were leaking and completely worn out. High quality replacement pipes especially those durable enough to withstand Njoroi’s soil, turned out to be quite expensive. So, with your support, we prioritized replacing the damaged piping to ensure a sustainable water supply.
Once the pipes were successfully installed, the remaining funds were used to support additional community needs. We painted one and only classroom that had been recently built, through my help and villagers also contributed and i also bought footballs and pumps for Oloika school. These small additions brought so much joy to the children. Though the painted classroom still has only five desks and two teachers with many students still sitting on rocks they are proud, eager to learn, and filled with hope.
Balancing the pressure from local authorities, the technical demands of the water system, and the needs of the schools was incredibly difficult but it was worth every struggle. In the end, we succeeded.
The people of Njoroi are endlessly thankful to your family and your generosity will never be forgotten.
Thank you once again, Erika, Chris, Theo, and Chloe, for believing in us and giving us the chance to build a better future. I send this message with love, gratitude, and blessings from everyone in Njoroi.
With warm regards,
Deo
